Rubber band ligation of your haemorrhoids is suitable if you have small, internal haemorrhoids. The banding procedure involves placing a very tight elastic band at the base of the haemorrhoid, cutting off the blood supply causing the haemorrhoid to slough off after about 5-7 days. It can be performed as a day case procedure with you awake or under light sedation. Most patients return to their normal activities the following day. It is normally painless but some patients describe a mild discomfort.
